Residue Waxes: The Bottom of the Wax Barrel Is a Market of Its Own

Every gleaming white paraffin candle has humbler ancestors. Lubricant refining and wax processing throw off a family of in-between materials — slack wax heavy with oil, foots oil at the softer extreme, crude and semi-refined cuts along the way — collectively the residue waxes, and collectively one of the wax world’s busiest trading categories.

Feedstock economics

The logic is simple: not every application needs refined perfection, and not every refiner wants to finish the job. Candle and match manufacturers blend residue grades directly where colour tolerance allows. Board mills and emulsion makers consume slack wax by the tonne for water-resistance duty. Wax refiners buy the streams as upgrade feedstock, de-oiling toward paraffin margins. Even rust-protection and technical formulators find the oil-bearing character an asset, not a flaw. Each buyer prices the same three numbers differently: oil content, melting point, colour.

Trading the spectrum honestly

Residue streams vary refinery to refinery; the desk’s craft is assay honesty and stream-to-buyer matching. SIPL aggregates across sources, certifies per lot, and ships bags, drums and bulk from Gujarat’s refining corridor to processors across India, the UAE, East Africa and Bangladesh.
